Artists brought their unique craft to Poplar Springs Elementary School Thursday.

Richard Graham and Andy John use interaction in presenting a folklore program to youngsters. They integrated math, geography and music into a Mississippi history lesson.

"We know that children learn best while doing. So today, children have heard music from Mississippi history," said Clair Huff, Whole Schools Initiative Project director. "They have danced dances from our history. They have had the opportunity to see instruments and to hear those instruments that they would have never seen or heard before. So we are making connections today with music, our culture, Mississippi history."

The folklore program was funded by Poplar Springs' Whole Schools Initiative grant through the Mississippi Arts Commission.
