Smithfield Packing Company in North Carolina is recalling nearly 20,000 pounds of pork neckbones, including some in Mississippi and Alabama that may be contaminated with plastic.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced the voluntary recall Friday after the company based in Tar Heel, North Carolina, discovered the problem. They have asked consumers to return the pork to where they bought it.

The neckbones were produced earlier this month and distributed to retail stores and military commissaries in Alabama, the District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Maine, Mississippi, North Carolina, New York, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Virginia.

The pork was sold in two- to four-pound packages labeled as "Premium Smithfield Pork." The side of each of the Styrofoam packaging trays has a 10-digit code that starts with 1962, 1972 or
1982.
