Relatives, neighbors and friends were out early helping with cleanup efforts Saturday morning. Billy May of Bellamy, Alabama was killed as he lay on his sofa after a tree behind his mobile home fell onto the house, crushing him and cutting the trailer in half.

"We heard a crash and came out to see what happened," said one neighbor.

The Sumter County Sheriff's Department responded to the call.

"We was expecting bad weather last night, before the bad weather got here the tree just fell on its own, there was no wind or anything blowing at the time this tree is probably one hundred years old," said Sheriff Johnny Hatter of Sumter County.

The base of the tree had a diameter of three feet and a circumference of nine feet and just missed falling on the trailer's propane gas tank.
