The body of Walter Parker, Jr., of Meridian was discovered Monday morning in Sowashee Creek near Hawkins Crossing.
"The last time he was seen was yesterday morning at 8:00 when he was going to float Sowashee in a boat," said Keith McCary, Meridian's assistant chief of police.
"He was allegedly going to float all the way to Enterprise and call when he got there, so somebody could pick him up and he didn't make it."
According to a preliminary investigation, a fast-moving current likely tipped Parker's small boat. It could not easily be seen from the other side.
According to police, Parker was alone and not wearing a life jacket. While foul play is not suspected, investigators say an autopsy will be conducted.
