McDonald's topic was the upcoming base realignment and closure process scheduled for 2005.
McDonald said this round of base closures will likely be one of the largest in recent years, and should NAS Meridian be chosen for closure, McDonald said it would be devastating to the community.
"The Department of Defense is very serious about this BRAC round," said McDonald. "As a community, we have to take it seriously. We have to be prepared to fight for NAS Meridian and the 186th Air Wing."
A statewide summit involving all nine military communities has been scheduled. Members will work out a plan to help avoid any closures.
