Former television executive Frank Melton says he will run for mayor of Jackson.
Melton told Jackson television station WAPT Tuesday that he will formally announce his campaign this fall. Municipal elections are to be held in 2005.
Incumbent Mayor Harvey Johnson is the city's first black mayor and is serving his second term. He is expected to run again.
Melton is the former director of the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics. He was replaced when Republican Haley Barbour took office as governor.
Melton is the former long-time executive at Jackson TV station WLBT.
