Revenue Ahead of Projections

Records released Thursday show Mississippi is about $9 million ahead of where officials thought revenue collections would be right now.

That's only less than one-half of a percentage point above projections, but the tiny uptick comes after long periods of collections falling below expectations.

The new tax report could give officials a reason to raise the budget estimate for the coming year and that would pump millions more dollars into education and other programs.

Five experts will meet next week to decide whether it's feasible to raise next year's budget estimate.
