Family members and friends of the late Deangelo McElroy gathered Friday afternoon at Southeast Elementary School to remember him.
The six-year-old, who was a student at southeast, was killed a year ago when he was hit by an 18-wheeler on Highway 19 south.
A tree was planted in Deangelo's memory following the service at the school.
Southeast Elementary principal Joey Knight said that even though Deangelo is missed, everyone knows he's in a better place.
