Authorities say a student at Newton County Academy brought a loaded gun onto the campus last Friday. Officials found out about it and took him into custody late that day.
A hearing was held Monday on whether or not the 14-year-old male would stay in police custody.
Authorities said the student has been formally charged with possession of a firearm on school grounds.
After spending the weekend in the Scott County Juvenile Detention Center he was brought back to Newton County Monday by the police chief for a hearing.
George S. Monroe, the youth court judge, decided the boy could stay with his parents until his next hearing rather than go back to jail.
Officials said the boy's next hearing will be in two to three weeks.

ok WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE KIDS WHO HAD A GUN NOT ON THEM AT ALL IN SCHOOL AND THE CHILD WHO HAD A GUN? rATHER HE HAD IT TO SELL OR WHAT EVER THE REASON WAS, WHY SUGAR COAT IT FOR THE CHILD THAT GOES TO A "private" SCHOOL, WHY DID HE GET A CHANCE TO GO HOME WITH HIS PARENTS? A CRIME IS A CRIME WHY TREAT KIDS DIFFERENT BECAUSE OF THE SCHOOL THAT THEY GO TO.OH MY THIS IS NEVER GOING TO STOP .YOU OLD ENOUGH TO DO THE CRIME,YOU SHOULD BE OLD ENOUGH TO DO THE CRIME,REGARDLESS OF THE CITY, SCHOOL, OR YOUR BACKGROUND HISTORY.
Noone should get off "scott free" if they were aware of this
He knew exactly what the gun was going to be used for so he and "all" of the others that knew about this need to be punished...No one should get off scott free about this ordeal and unfortunatly there is one who was involved who is not being punished at all.......go figure that's our wonderful legal system for you.
