A House committee passed some tort reform proposals Tuesday, but it didn't give the governor what he advocated.
The bill does not include limits on pain and suffering or punitive damage awards in civil lawsuits. Gov. Haley Barbour wants those limits.
The House bill does allow for the creation of class-action lawsuits in Mississippi. It also creates a panel to review medical malpractice claims before the cases go to court.
The bill could come up for debate of the full House by the middle of next week.
