Campaign Finance Reform Pending?

At least two Mississippi officials say they hope a campaign finance bill will be a strong one.

Attorney General Jim Hood and Secretary of State Eric Clark said it is in the best public interest to make out-of-state groups report how much money they're spending on Mississippi elections.

The bill going before the Senate Tuesday would require broad disclosure by groups like the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

Hood and Clark say they hope it will not be amended or watered down.

A separate campaign finance bill has passed the Mississippi House of
Representatives. The two chambers are likely to negotiate on a final bill in the next few weeks.
