Gov. Bob Riley's proposal for term limits for legislators won support in the state Senate committee Wednesday.
The Senate Constitution and Elections Committee voted 5 to 1 for the bill that would place a three-term limit on legislators. The bill now goes to the full Senate.
But the bill's sponsor, state Sen. Jack Biddle, said he doesn't expect the bill to pass because it has strong opposition.
The Senate Constitution and Elections Committee also approved another of Riley's bills to prevent legislators and members of the governor's staff from serving as university trustees.
