The Sunflower County Farm Service Agency says Mississippi Delta farmers and ranchers are suffering their biggest losses in two decades -- and may be eligible for federal loans.
Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack declared part of Mississippi a major disaster area October 20th because of floods from April through June. Because Washington County is adjacent to the disaster area, growers there may be eligible for help.
The agency's county executive director, Robin Richardson, says she's been with the agency since 1987 and this is the worst year she's seen.
Richardson said some farmers were able to harvest some cotton and soybeans, but many had great losses.
