An East Central Community College student was killed late Thursday afternoon in a one-vehicle car accident.

Newton County Sheriff Jackie Knight says the accident happened around 4 p.m. on Decatur-Conehatta Road.

Sophomore Whitley Fisher of Lake, a graduate of Newton County High School, was remembered by classmates and friends at a gathering in Vickers Fine Arts Center auditorium Friday morning.

Fisher was a member of the concert choir at ECCC, which will perform at Fisher’s funeral. It's scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday at Forest Baptist Church. Visitation is from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Wolf Funeral Home in Morton.

Counselors from Weems Community Mental Health Center were also available Friday to meet with students coping with Fisher’s sudden death.
