Preserving Arts Education

As part of an initiative to promote art education in the school system, an African dance group from Birmingham was invited to perform authentic dances.

"Because of the lack of funding, every opportunity that we have we are trying to bring in different performers," said Annie Walker, community education supervisor for the Sumter County Board of education.

The group allowed both teachers and students to perform on stage with them.

The dance ensemble travels all over the world performing for schools and promoting African traditions, culture and history through music and dance.
