Two arrests were made Friday in the theft of a West Lauderdale school bus about three months ago.
Surveillance video from a store on Highway 495 the night of Aug. 4, just before classes started at West Lauderdale Elementary, showed the bus passing by, followed by another vehicle.
The bus was later left near the school. Another bus was damaged after it was used to ram a fence at West Lauderdale Elementary.
Two 18-year-olds have been charged, Colton Poe and Joshua Haskins. One of the young men is a student in the Lauderdale County School District.
At this time authorities aren't discussing the possible motive in the bus theft. But if it was a prank, you might want to think first before trying it.
"The victim in this case, which is the school system, has signed an affidavit for motor vehicle theft," said Chief Deputy Ward Calhoun. "Individuals need to think about what they do, what they may consider a prank, and I can't speak as to why they did this, I do not know the motive in this certain case."
Calhoun says this case will be presented to the March grand jury. Both been were booked in to the Lauderdale County J ail, each under $5,000 bond. They have both posted bond.
Motor vehicle theft is a felony. The two men could face up to 15 years in jail and could be fined as much as $10,000.

To Josh's cousin: I have teenagers, and if my child did this so called "Prank", I would expect my child to pay the price for his actions. They went on school grounds and stole a bus which is a Felony. That is the law, then they knocked down mailboxes, which again is a Felony. I pray for these families. My heart goes out to the parents. The laws are made for a reason. The Bible says that "thou shalt not steal." Again my heart goes out to the parents, not the young men who commited the crime. Now is the time they need to stand up and take their punishment like men. If they are of legal age, which one is still in school, then they need to be charged like an adult. May God help us all in this matter.
Prank--frim the dictionary--frolicsome trick or escapade. These young men are guilty of a crime. They acted as a kid, without the maturity of an adult even being of age, they acted without thought. That should not be an excuse not to charge them with a felony. Maybe we should ask the Courts to put them in the Military to do their time. They use to do that years ago, maybe they should start it up again. Let the Military kick their butts a little. Might help them to grow up. I feel sad for their parents, who have had to deal with the embarrassement from their children. May God help them all in this situation. I don't think this situation has affected these young men as much as alot of you think. Just watch how they treat the people who love them (Parents). If the Military won't take them, then Jail should be the next best thing for a felon.
They did the crime, now they do the time. Prank or not, they broke the law. White, black, or red, they need to come up with some green and pay for what they have done. Then they need a minimum of six months in jail. They should be charged with being stupid!
