A group of volunteers from AmeriCorps spent Friday morning working on Monument Park in downtown Meridian. The new park project is being headed up by the East Mississippi Business Development Corporation.
The park is located on 23rd Avenue,at 4th Street, behind the old Rayner Drug Store.
"This is something that people will come and see, this park, and it may mean something to somebody," said Tara McCartney of AmeriCorps. "They may have fun times hanging out, so it's important for us to do this because we get to help the community."
The EMBDC has scheduled a work day for Saturday morning at the park, to try to continue to spruce it up.
Organizers plan to use volunteer labor and donations to do most of the work.
