An apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound claimed the life of a Lauderdale County man Wednesday afternoon.
He was identified by law enforcement as Terry L. Boyette, 48, of 5310 Chandler Road.
The Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department said he was part of an ongoing investigation.
"The Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department had been investigating an alleged misconduct between this individual and at least one youth. During the course of the investigation a consent to search was signed by the individual of this home," said Sheriff Billy Sollie.
"He was brought to the location by one of the investigators. During the course of the search, the individual said he had one more item to get out of a particular room," said Sollie. "He entered into the room and before the investigator could enter the room, the subject grabbed a handgun, discharged the weapon, taking his life."
The shooting is under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
