East central Mississippi had two schools that scored the highest possible rating with the new accountability system adopted by the Mississippi Department of Education, that of a 'star school'.

Southeast Lauderdale High School got that designation. It was the only school in Lauderdale County to receive such a rating, and one of only a handful statewide.

School officials say they are excited about the news.

"I'm just thankful today for what our staff and students have done. We are proud of it, and I just can't thank them enough," said principal Dwane Taylor.

Enterprise High School in Clarke County also received the 'star school' status. Enterprise Middle School was 'high performing'. The elementary was deemed 'successful'.

Congrats Quitman, all your schools seems to be doing very well, even with the harder test that were given. With new administration at the Elem. I expect it will be getting good news next year.

Hey, i like the fact that the ratings are high, but what i think schools should start focusing on is the drop out rate... they should not only look at the ratings for the school, but look at how many students drop out because i think it is really bad that students drop out because they think it is the only choice they have to get something from high school. Its a dumb decision, but unbelievably some teachers support students getting a GED instead of pushing students to get a diploma. Its not right!
