An inmate at the East Mississippi Correctional Facility died Monday.
An investigation is underway, led by highway patrol investigator Danny Knight and the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department.
Chief Deputy Mike Mitchell said he could not release much information at this time.
Authorities were notified of the death about 12:30 p.m. Monday afternoon. The name of the victim is withheld pending notification of his family.
A cellmate could be charged, if evidence shows foul play was involved.
