A House committee has approved a two-year delay in the federal government's next round of military base closings and realignments scheduled for next year, but the delay is far from final.
The delay was approved as members of the House Armed Services Committee were working through the full defense authorization bill, which designates spending for defense projects.
The delay still must be approved by the full House. The Senate is working on its own defense authorization bill, which does not include the delay.
The differences in the two bills would need to be worked out in a conference committee.
