Mississippi's auditor Phil Bryant was the guest speaker for Multi-County Community Service Agency's annual Community Action Awards Banquet in Meridian.
MCCSA is a non-profit agency with a mission to help the disadvantaged and to be an instrument of change in the community.
"This is just a time to say, in some small way, that we do appreciate their efforts," said Callie Cole, executive director of MCCSA,
"It's about volunteers and this nation, this state, this county, the city of Meridian, could not make it without the volunteers. The people that are in this room not only care for their children but for other people's children, and we're here to recognize them and I'm glad to be a part of that," said Bryant.
MCCSA is home to the South Harbor Homeless Shelter, and also operates Meals on Wheels and provides energy assistance programs to low-income individuals, among others.
