Snow Expected in Mississippi, Alabama

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for portions of southern Mississippi, beginning at 6 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday.

Forecasts called for up to an inch of snow, with some areas getting as much as two inches, in an area running from Claiborne County south to the Gulf Coast and east to Forrest County.

State officials were warning of possible hazardous driving conditions.

Forecasters say light snow initially mixed with light rain was expected to develop across southwest Mississippi and southern portions of northeast Louisiana Friday night and spread eastward through early Saturday.

The weather service says snow is likely to occur between 7 p.m. and 3 a.m.

Forecasters say central Alabama could get an early-season dusting of snow Friday night.

The National Weather Service says small accumulations of snow are possible north of Interstate 85 and south of Interstate 20/59 from late Friday through Saturday morning.

More snow could fall in elevated areas, but forecasters say it shouldn't be enough to cause travel problems since the ground is so warm.

The weather service says snow is possible across most of Alabama except the coast.
