Due to cutbacks, elementary schools in Meridian will be without P.E. teacher assistants next year.

In order to cut spending of district money the Meridian School Board decided this week to re-structure Physical Education programs at the elementary level.

The system will cut 17 P.E. teacher assistant positions, then each school will elect whether to continue its P.E. program next year.

Junior high, middle school and high school will not be affected by the cutbacks.

The 17 individuals in the teaching assistant positions will be placed in other capacities and are not expected to loose their jobs completely.
