Lonnie Grissom, a 58-year-old white male from Tippah County, has been identified as the inmate who was killed Monday at the East Mississippi Correctional Facility at Lost Gap. Tyrone Wilson, 29, of Hinds County, already an inmate there, is being held in connection with the death. Officials have not yet finished the investigation.
"We have some evidence that will be sent to the lab," said Chief Deputy Mike Mitchell. "We are getting more information now to disseminate it. We should have it hopefully by the end of the day or first thing tomorrow as far as the autopsy to make a determination of death."
This is the third apparent inmate-on-inmate attack at Lost Gap Prison since May. Two others were injured in altercations.
