The driver of an 18-wheeler lost control of the rig, hit a van and crashed into a convenience store on Highway 82 in Pickens County.
Witnesses said the injury toll could have been worse.
"I was standing behind the register and we just heard the squealing of tires and I went to look out the window," said store manager Anna Benefield. "Because if I had been standing two feet in another direction, I could have been dead."
All occupants of the van escaped injury. One person inside the store was taken to a Tuscaloosa hospital.
