The outgoing president of the Southern Baptist Convention said he expects delegates to the denomination's annual meeting to strongly endorse a constitutional ban on gay marriage.
But the Rev. Jack Graham said he doesn't expect next week's meeting in Indianapolis to consider a resolution urging Southern Baptists to remove their children from "godless'' public schools.
Graham, who's completing a two-year term, said he'd rather encourage Baptist teachers and administrators “to be salt and light” in the public schools.
Asked about the Episcopal Church's consecration of an openly gay bishop, Graham said he prays that Bible-believing Episcopalians can either change their church or divide it and move on.
Graham added he hopes that his own denomination will consider changing its name to reflect the "national and international presence of Southern Baptists.''
