U.S. Cong. Chip Pickering addressed the Lauderdale County Council of Governments Monday afternoon, stressing the need for unity among area leadership if the east Mississippi/west Alabama region is to reach its great economic development potential.
"We have a tremendous opportunity for the region and we as leaders need to be unified. We need to have a plan. We all need to be committed to give the resources from the congressional, the state, the local level and the private level to make this vision, this dream a reality," Pickering said.
That's a cause Pickering said will be helped significantly with Mississippi Sen. Thad Cochran, due to become the chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee.
"That means that we have the opportunity to bring significant investment to Mississippi," the congressman said.
In his fourth term, Cong. Pickering is the vice-chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee and talked a little about gas prices, which have actually dipped 10 cents per gallon locally since Thursday.
