The Neshoba County Board of Supervisors has approved the project that would add 40 additional hospital beds, including 18 to the emergency room.
"Our expansion is focusing on not only our emergency rooms, but also our outpatient services, like radiology and surgery as well as the emergency room," said Dr. Walt Willis, director of emergency care at Neshoba General.
Officials say the addition is desperately needed. The Hospital admits 10 percent more emergency patients than does Riley Hospital in Meridian.
Construction is slated to begin in three months, with completion set for 2006.
