Some North Mississippi Schools Close Due to Weather

The Mississippi Department of Transportation said ice was reported in at least 10 counties Friday as a winter weather system pushed across the region.

National Weather Service meteorologist Brad Bryant says there may be light sleet and snow late Friday and Saturday south of U.S. Highway 82, but most of the precipitation and freezing conditions were expected north of there through Friday night.

There's a threat of power outages in extreme north Mississippi if ice accumulates on power lines and trees.

Public schools in several north Mississippi counties closed Friday. The University of Mississippi also closed early.
