Hundreds mark 40 years since the murder of three civil rights workers in Neshoba County. Participants from York, Alabama, Jackson, Mississippi, Meridian and other surrounding areas took part in the annual Queen City Soap Box Derby in Downtown Meridian on Saturday.

Spectators lined the streets as racers reached speeds of 30 miles per hour. Organizers say the derby has grown in each of the three years since its reintroduction to the Queen City.

The winner of this year’s Super Stock Division was Kendell Carpenter and the winner of the Stock Division was McKenzie Ross. They will both go onto Akron, Ohio for the national competition.
