The Department of Defense program is based at Meridian Naval Air Station.
The mobile planetarium was moved to Oakland Heights to show students the constellations and teach about astronomy, which includes math and science.
"Maybe in whatever career they decide to be in, maybe it will be in something related to math or to science," said instructor Dianne Barnes. "A lot of things that we do, have to do with the technology of flying and so maybe some of them will be a pilot some day."
Fifth grade students who get to visit Starbase Atlantis at the base enjoy a five-day learning program. At the end, they get to launch rockets.
