A new Mississippi law gives nonviolent inmates the chance to earn a day off their sentences for each day they work. In the past, inmates got one day off for every three days of labor.

The new work program is off-limits to some inmates including sex offenders, habitual offenders and those convicted of trafficking in controlled substances.
