Armed Robbery

"It happened so fast, until it really frightens you," said Jo Ann Richardson.

Richardson is talking about the armed robbery, which happened Tuesday morning at the Corner Mart convience store in downtown Union. Around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, she says a black male suspect walked into the store armed with a knife.

"He just held it close to me. He said, 'Give me your money.' Then I said, 'Just wait a minute,' and I backed up and fell off the stool. I got back up, opened the register and he jumped over the counter and then grabbed all the bills," Richardson said.

After swiping the cash, investigators say the suspect fled to the side of the building, heading North on foot.

"Within two minutes officers had saturated the area. He was last seen running into some bushes," said Patrolman Robert Reid, Union Police.

The suspect is described as a black male in his early to mid-20s, about 5 "8", 170 pounds, wearing a gray shirt and blue pants.

Counting this incident, over the past ten years there have been two armed robberies in the small town of Union. With so few, Jo Ann Richardson said she had no fear about going to work.

However, now she says its a different story.

"I can't work anymore, at least not in the store!" said Richardson.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Union Police at (601) 774-9211.
