The city of Meridian Tuesday filed a request to annex in Lauderdale County Chancery Court.
The plan to annex 11 square miles adjacent to the city was first announced in July at a City Council meeting.
"The annexation we're proposing is the second phase of the annexation for the city of Meridian," said Mayor John Robert Smith on July 16. "It is very reasonable. It is a very reasonable annexation, fairly limited annexation and it follows the natural growth pattern to the east."
The petition asked the court to approve the new boundaries for the city of Meridian.
