Lauderdale County departments are spending again after ad valorem revenues began coming into county coffers again.

In middle of last week, county administrator Mike Sumrall informed department heads that they needed to stop spending because the county's general fund had become too low.

Tuesday, Sumrall said the county is in better shape, but is not in the clear by any means.

"We had gotten to like $3,200, which was just a cash flow issue," said Sumrall. "We knew the ad valorem settlement would come back. And sure enough, Friday it was settled and posted to our books, so Friday we started writing purchase orders."

Sumrall says the general fund is high enough for now, but supervisors will still have to pay close attention to the road fund.

Laura is always complaining about something. Go back and look at the story last week. Here are two segments from it: "The general fund and the road fund, and as well as garbage, solid waste fund had budget issues right now, cash flow problems, and we stopped purchase orders this week. In other words we didn't go out and purchase anything for a couple days this week," said Sumrall. And also "Sumrall says purchasing should be back to normal by this coming Monday. He says the county still has to be extremely careful with all department budgets." Okay, so they checked back on the story this week. He said it straightened itself out with new money coming in. People buy tags, marriage licenses, pay their taxes. Money comes in all the time. Where's the conflict?

Look, WTOK and Lauderdale County---is Lauderdale County with or without money? How about getting your stories straight? You said, TOK, that no spending would be allowed by Lauderdale County the other day---amd now it's reversed? No wonder we are in the shape we are in with people like you giving out the news.
