Ninety children from the Sumter County area sharpened their basketball skills in the Future Stars Basketball Camp held this week at Livingston High School.
The camp was founded by former professional basketball player Marcus Campbell, a Sumter County native.
"It's good that Marcus is able to come back and give to the community," said Chris Spencer, who is an assistant coach for the camp.
The free week-long camp gives the kids a chance to learn more about the game while also learning life lessons.
"I enjoy the kids and they enjoy themselves," Campbell said.
Campbell said that he started the basketball camp three years ago because one like his was not available in his area. He also said he wanted to give kids the same opportunity he was afforded when he was younger.
"I just wanted to do something for the community," said Campbell.
A fewer number of students involved in this camp allowed more one-on-one time for each of the children.
