Police Investigations

A gunshot that wounded a child Saturday at Western Gardens Apartments resulted from a gun discharging accidentally.

Meridian Police Department spokesman Dean Harper said the child, who was helping unload groceries, also picked up a nylon bag.

When the child dropped the bag, the gun inside fired and hit the five-year-old in the ankle. The child is recovering at a local hospital.

Meanwhile, a teenager was hospitalized and a suspect questioned after a 17-year-old male was allegedly assaulted with a gun.

The incident happened on 32nd Avenue and interchange road just before 9:00 p.m. Sunday.

Harper said no shots were fired and the victim's injuries are not life-threatening. No one has been charged.
