"I'm 100 percent sure it was a homicide." Neshoba County Sheriff Larry Myers is talking about Sunday night's discovery of a body.
The woman was found on County Road 2606 just off Highway 16 West, around 11 o'clock Sunday night. Found lying beside the road, investigators say it appears the woman was killed at the site and perhaps had not been there long before being found by someone passing in a car.
"By the appearance of the body and the blood that was pooled," says Sheriff Myers, "she was there for a couple of hours at most before being found."
The question now, how did she get there? Or better yet, who was she with? These are both just two of many unanswered questions which remain.
"At the present time," says Sheriff Myers, "We do not have identification on her. All I can say is that she's a young black female, somewhere in the age from 16 to 22 years old. She weighed approximately 100 to 110 pounds."
Sheriff Myers goes on to say that the woman was fully clothed. At this time he says he's awaiting results from an autopsy before releasing the exact cause of death. Meanwhile, anyone with any information on the case is asked to call the Neshoba County Sheriff's Department at (601) 656-1414.
With the search for the person or persons responsible ongoing, authorities are offering residents this advice.
"Anytime you have a murder, everybody should be alarmed to some extent, so just be precautious!"
