The Spreading of America's Game

In 1934, the all-American baseball team, including Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, and Meridian native, Eric McNair, went on a barnstorming tour of the far east.

Don McNair, the son of Eric McNair, spoke to the Meridian Rotary Club Monday.

"There was no professional baseball in Japan, although it was widely played. It was really the national pastime over there as well as exhibited by some of the pictures and things," Don McNair said.

The 1934 all-American team included nine hall-of-famers and is widely considered one of the greatest teams ever assembled.
