U.S. Senator Thad Cochran was in the Queen City Thursday, as he campaigns for reelection.
Senator Cochran was the featured guest and speaker at a fundraiser for his campaign. Cochran is seeking his fifth term in office.
If Republicans regain control of the senate, Cochran would be in line to the be the chairman of the Appropriations Committee, and Cochran says that would be good for Mississippi.
Cochran also addressed defense issues, including NAS Meridian. He says Meridian Naval Air Station is in good position to avoid another round of base closures.
Cochran is running unopposed in this year's election, as his Democrat opponent dropped out of the race due to health reasons. He says he's happy about that, but it's been his plan from the beginning to represent all Mississippians, both Republican and Democrat.
