Winn-Dixie stores across the southeast will be helping local schools earn supplies.

When Winn-Dixie customers swipe their rewards cards, the school of their choice will earn credits.

Those credits may be used for computers, software, books and other supplies.

"We have invited more than 10,000 schools to participate, and each school is given a unique five digit code. Supporters can then apply that code to their Winn-Dixie customer rewards card at any Winn-Dixie store or online at winn-dixie.com," said marketing representative Joanne Gage.

Participating schools will have a chance to earn a share of up to $5 million.

All west Lauderdale schools and Oakland Heights Elementary in Meridian were among the first to register for the rewards program.

The deadline to register is Sept. 15.
