U.S. Sen. Trent Lott has called for campaign law reforms that would require unregulated, independent political groups to report where they get their money.
Lott's comments came Tuesday when he was speaking to a civic club in Pascagoula.
Lott said recent campaign funding regulations under the McCain-Fiengold Campaign Finance Reform Act have changed the country's campaign laws, but have spawned independent political groups.
The groups can receive funds to produce advertisements either supporting or attacking candidates. They aren't required to reveal their funding sources or contributors.
Recent such ads have attacked President George W. Bush and Democratic presidential nominee, Sen. John Kerry.
