Fighting Domestic Terror

A new plan is now in effect in Alabama that will help fight violence against women.

Statistics from the Alabama criminal justice information center shows more than 1,000 rapes and 20,000 domestic violence cases are reported every year in the state. But officials say that's only about 20 percent of those crimes being committed.

"I want to emphasize how important I think it is to remember during these times of national crisis, how important it is to remember our own backyards," said Judge Jimmy Frye. "Everywhere I go, whether it's Washington or anywhere else, I like to remind our senators and congressmen that homeland defense truly does begin at home and it begins in our own backyards."

The new plan will educate doctors, law enforcement and any other public officials who witness a crime and are willing to report it.
