An explosion has occurred at an oil field in Clarke County. Authorities there are working to cut off the source of an explosion.
It happened at the West Nancy Oil Field, operated by Denbury Resources, on County Road 280, near the Jasper County line.
One injury has been reported, but no fatalities.
Clarke County Sheriff Todd Kemp said an evacuation was ordered for all people living along that road, because hydrogen sulfide is highly toxic.
Kemp said around 7:30 p.m. that the fire had been contained.
Evacuees were directed to the Western Hotel in Quitman, with Denbury officials saying the company would pay for the hotel stays. An ID verifying the address of the evacuees is required.
