AT&T Donates to Artist Program

The Montgomery Institute is the recipient of a $10,000 grant in support of the arts.

The check was presented Friday by the benefactor, AT&T. The money is designated for the Educating Artists and Entrepreneur Program in rural areas of east Mississippi and west Alabama.

The Montgomery Institute is matching the grant for a total of $20,000.

Project director Richelle Putnam says the grant will be used train artists how to do business.

"And also we're going to be working in rural areas to show how they can use the arts to expand their creative economy in their area," Putnam said.

Putnam says the program is open to artists of every genre, from performing to literary, and it's available to the east Mississippi and west Alabama counties served by The Montgomery Institute.
