Alabama Lawmakers Considering Gun Law Revisions

The Legislature's last day May 20 looks to be long and hectic even though both state budgets have already passed.

The Senate and House will likely work late into the night.

House Speaker Mike Hubbard's priorities include getting the House to approve a Senate-passed bill that provides for drug testing of welfare applicants who have had a drug conviction in the last five years.

House members could also decide whether to go along with a Senate bill that would make major revisions to Alabama's gun laws, including allowing workers to keep guns in their cars at work.

The Senate will have to decide whether to approve bond issues for repairing tornado-damaged schools, making school entrances secure against intruders and buying up-to-date equipment for high school technology programs.
