Alcorn State Alumni Host Scholarship Banquet

Meridian, Mississippi The Meridian/Lauderdale Alumni chapter of Alcorn State University hosted its annual Purple and Gold Scholarship Banquet Friday night.

The event raises money for the general scholarship fund as well as specific scholarship funds at the university. The president of Alcorn State, Dr. Alfred Rankins Jr., spoke at Friday's banquet. He became president on March 17th, and he talked about his plan for the university.

"My primary goal is to make Alcorn State University the most student-friendly university in the world," said Rankins, Jr. "Everything we do at Alcorn will be centered around a perfect environment for our students to get a quality education."

The theme for Friday's banquet was teaming together for success with a legacy to remember.
