Alpha Kappa Alpha Chapter Celebrates 30 Years

Meridian, Miss. The Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority's Omicron Beta Omega chapter is celebrating its 30th anniversary today. And the group brought in guests from all over the region for this occasion.

AKA is an international service organization dedicated to helping others. Today is also the 106th National Founders' Day. Tennessee State University's president, Dr. Glenda Glover, was the speaker at today's event. And she says being able to celebrate 30 years with her sorority means a lot.

"It says that we've been in the community, working, giving back to the community. The programs of the service really are to assist the community residents and ensure that Alpha Kappa Alpha continues its legacy," Dr. Glover says.

Meridian Mayor Percy Bland also honored the AKA sorority today by naming Jan. 11 "Alpha Kappa Alpha Day" in the Queen City.
