With its rich railroad history, Meridian is playing host to the 40th Anniversary Amtrak Exhibit Train this weekend at Union Station.

The exhibits and Meridian Railroad Museum are open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The event is free, and offers something for everyone, even children.

"It has really been fantastic," said Todd Stennis, director of government affairs for Amtrak. "We've seen people from all across the country come out and look at things. And everybody takes something away from it that's different from everybody else's."

Everyone is sure to get something different with everything the train has to offer.

"You're going to see a variety of things from employee uniforms all the way up to advertising memorabilia," said Stennis. "You're going to see commercials. We even have an exhibit inside that's interactive, with horns where you can see the horns that Amtrak has had through the years. And we've got china set up in various cars where you can look at the different china that Amtrak has had."

The train also features an anniversary store where you may purchase memorabilia and even model trains. This event, in the eyes of Amtrak, fits perfectly into what Meridian has to offer.

"Meridian is a great place to bring a train like this. We've got the opportunity here with the facilities, with the station, so we thought this was an excellent opportunity to bring it to the state of Mississippi," Stennis said.
